About MAMWA

The Maryland Association of Municipal Wastewater Agencies, Inc. (MAMWA) is a statewide association of 23 local governments and authorities that own and operate municipal wastewater treatment plants. In addition, 9 leading engineering firms participate as affiliate members to keep abreast of changing policies and to support MAMWA members with their exceptional technical expertise.

MAMWA's primary purpose is to ensure that Maryland's water quality programs are based on sound science and good public policy, which is necessary for MAMWA members to protect public health and the environment successfully and cost-effectively.

MAMWA is actively involved with state and federal policy makers on every major water quality issue in Maryland critical to effective management of municipal wastewater treatment plants and collection systems, including:

  • State Legislation and Appropriations
  • State Grant Funding and Low Interest Loans
  • Water Quality Standards Development
  • Water Quality Standards Implementation Policies
  • Chesapeake Bay TMDL
  • Statewide Nutrient Control Requirements
